see what i've been up to lately!

I am a designer based in Melbourne. I came to Australia from Scotland to study textiles in 2005 (hot on the trail of Aussie boy), and developed skills across various design mediums including screenprint, weaving, knitting and experimental textiles.

Screenprinting in particular allowed me to incorporate aspects of drawing and painting and markmaking which i have always loved, and i try to bring in as many hand drawn elements to my work as i can. I am currently working with papercut stencils and hand produced textures to make small printed block pictures.

My other great love is photography, which seems to flter into every aspect of my work. My camera is a great tool for capturing colour schemes, textures, inspiring imagery and shapes. I am drawn to record my surroundings, whether overseas (recently Morrocco and Japan) or closer to home, and always call on these image banks to inspire new projects.

I am also currently enjoying the challenges of web design, and tailoring my design process to meet the needs of this particular medium, as well as pushing the boundaries.

Sustainability is another theme of my design work, in the past i have designed textiles for ‘found’ pieces of furniture, giving new life to vintage pieces, trying to create a balance between quality recycled goods and quirky new design.

Above all else i seek to make things that are unique, surprising and visually intriguing.
